Two kinds of search

SEO vs. local SEO, and why most local businesses need both

SEO and local SEO overlap, but they work on different parts of the search results. Knowing which does what makes any proposal easier to judge, including ours.

SEO

Your website’s visibility as a whole

SEO helps improve a website’s overall search visibility. It covers how your site is built, how each page is titled and described, how pages link to one another, and whether your content answers what people actually search for. It shapes how your pages appear in Google’s regular results, including searches that don’t mention a location.

  • Technical health, mobile usability, and speed
  • Page titles, site structure, and internal links
  • Content that answers real customer questions

Local SEO

Your visibility in the places you serve

Local SEO helps businesses appear for searches connected to a specific location or service area. It reaches beyond your website to the map results and local listings, where Google names three main factors: relevance, distance, and prominence. Your Google Business Profile, consistent details across directories, and pages for the areas you serve all play a part.

  • A complete, accurate Google Business Profile
  • Matching business details across directories
  • Pages for the services and areas you cover

Most local service businesses need both. Local SEO helps you show up for people nearby; SEO helps your website show up for what they search and answer what they need to know before they book. That’s why we deliver them together, under one scope.

Who this service is for

Built for businesses where a search turns into a booking

Spas and wellness studios, salons and estheticians, photographers, event services, and other owner-operated businesses that depend on people nearby finding them when they’re ready to book.

A good fit if…

  • Customers search for what you offer with a place in mind: “near me,” a city, or a neighborhood.
  • You have a website, or are getting one, and want it to bring in inquiries rather than just exist.
  • Your business name, phone number, hours, or address differ between Google, directories, and social profiles, or you’re not sure whether they do.
  • You want the work handled steadily, with one point of contact and a report you can actually read.

Probably not the right fit if…

  • You want a page for every nearby town, whether or not you serve it. We build location pages only for areas you actually cover.
  • You plan to judge SEO on a single month of work. It builds over months.
  • You mainly need paid advertising managed. We don’t offer it, and we’ll point you to a specialist.

What’s included

What we work on, and why each part matters

Nine areas of work, from the technical foundations to the monthly report. Which of them are in your scope, and how often, is agreed in writing before work begins.

Technical website review

We check what can stop search engines from finding and reading your pages: whether Google has your pages in its index, broken links, redirects, duplicate pages, mobile usability, and load speed. You get the issues ranked by impact, not a raw tool export.

Keyword and search-intent research

We find the words customers actually use, such as “lash lift near me” or “newborn photographer Boca Raton,” and what they expect to see when they search. Each important phrase is matched to one page, so your pages don’t compete with each other.

Page titles and descriptions

They’re what a searcher reads before deciding whether to click. We write them for each key page to name the service, the place, and a reason to choose you. Google doesn’t always display them as written, but clear, accurate ones give it the right material.

Website structure and internal links

Clear menus and sensible links between related pages help visitors and search engines understand what you offer and which pages matter most. We fix pages nothing links to, vague link text, and services buried several clicks deep.

Service and location pages

One focused page for each core service, and pages for the areas you genuinely serve. Each one carries real details for that service or place, not the same text with the town name swapped.

Content and FAQ development

Articles and FAQ answers built around what customers ask before they book: price, preparation, what to expect, and aftercare. Useful answers help people decide, and give search engines more to match against real searches.

Local citations and business information consistency

Citations are the directory and app listings that repeat your business name, address or service area, and phone number. We check that they match your website and Business Profile, update the listings you give us access to, and flag duplicates so they can be reported.

Search Console and analytics monitoring

Google Search Console shows which searches your site appears for, how often people click, and whether Google can find and index your pages. Alongside your analytics, we review it monthly for new errors, drops, and opportunities.

Monthly reporting

Each month you see what was done, what changed in search, and what we recommend next, with the numbers explained rather than pasted in. If something isn’t moving, the report says so, and we agree what to change on the review call.

Your Google Business Profile has its own service page, covering setup, categories, photos, posts, and review-response support.

How the work runs

Find the problems. Fix the foundations. Then build.

Order matters. New pages on a site that search engines struggle to read are money poorly spent, so we fix what’s broken before adding anything new. It starts with a free consultation, and no work begins until you approve a written proposal.

  1. Audit

We review your website, search presence, and local listings, then give you a written list of what’s holding you back, ranked by impact.

  2. Foundations

Technical fixes, page titles, site structure, and business details that match everywhere. Unglamorous work that everything else depends on.

  3. Month by month

New content, listing and profile upkeep, and monitoring, with a report and review call each month so you always know what was done and what changed.

Setting expectations

What SEO can and cannot guarantee

Search results are Google’s decision, not ours or any agency’s. Here’s the line between what we control and what nobody does.

In our control

What we commit to

  • A written scope before work begins: what’s included, what isn’t, and the price.
  • Work that follows Google’s published guidelines: no bought links, fake reviews, or keyword-stuffed business names.
  • Fixes made in order of impact, starting with anything that stops Google from reading your pages.
  • One point of contact from the first call onward, and a monthly report on ongoing work.
  • Your accounts stay in your name. We ask to be added as a manager or user.
  • A straight answer when something isn’t working, or when SEO isn’t the right next step for you.

Outside our control

What nobody can promise

  • A specific position in Google, or a first-page spot by a set date.
  • A set number of calls, bookings, or leads each month.
  • Showing in the map results for every search across your area. Distance is one of Google’s main local factors, so a business closer to the searcher may appear first.
  • Positions that never move. Search results change as Google updates its systems and competitors keep working.
  • Meaningful results from one month of work.

Our position, in writing

SEO is an ongoing process. Gen Digital Marketing does not guarantee rankings, traffic, leads or revenue.

What we can do is get the parts within our control right, and show you honestly what changes as a result.

Pricing

SEO pricing: start with an audit, or go straight to monthly work

The free consultation gives you a first read. The paid audit goes further: a written plan ranked by impact, yours to keep whether you act on it with us or on your own. Whichever you start with, you get a written proposal with the scope, deliverables, exclusions, and final price before any work begins.

How long does SEO take to work?

It depends on your starting point, your competition, and how much work your site still needs. Technical fixes and rewritten page titles can show up once Google revisits your pages, while content and local listings tend to build over months rather than weeks. After the audit we’ll tell you what’s realistic for your situation, and each monthly report shows progress as it happens. What we won’t do is promise a date.

What is the difference between SEO and local SEO?

SEO is about your website showing up in Google’s regular results, including searches with no place in them, such as “what to wear for family photos.” Local SEO is about your business showing up when someone wants a provider nearby, such as “family photographer near me,” in the map results and on Google Maps, and it leans heavily on your Google Business Profile. Most appointment-based businesses need both, which is why we deliver them together.

Do I need a Google Business Profile for local SEO?

For most local businesses, yes. Your Business Profile is what can appear in Google Maps and the map results, so without one you’re largely missing from that part of local search. Google sets the eligibility rules: for example, the business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours. We can set up or optimize a profile as a separate service, starting at $650, and ongoing profile management is included in Visibility Essentials.

Do you guarantee first-page rankings?

No. Google decides what appears in its results, and it says it doesn’t accept payment to rank a site higher. SEO is an ongoing process. Gen Digital Marketing does not guarantee rankings, traffic, leads or revenue. What we do commit to is a written scope, work that follows Google’s guidelines, and an honest monthly report on what changed.

What is in the monthly report?

What we worked on that month, how your visibility moved in Google Search Console (how often you appeared, how often people clicked, and the searches behind both), anything notable on your Business Profile and listings, and what we plan next. Where inquiry tracking is set up, it also shows inquiries that came from search. We go through it with you on a review call, in plain English.

Do I need a new website before starting SEO?

Usually not. Most SEO work happens on the site you already have: technical fixes, page titles, structure, and content. The audit shows whether your current site can support it. If it can’t — for example, it’s very slow on phones or you can’t edit it yourself — we’ll explain your options, including a rebuild, before you commit to monthly SEO work.
